Statement
Kristy Cavaretta is an artist, designer, and mother of three living on the Southern Maine seacoast. She enjoys exploring the minutiae of domestic life through a variety of media.
Themes of consumption, waste, and domestic labor are present as Cavaretta uses household packaging as a substrate in these works. Mac N Cheese, cereal boxes, and packaging from other pantry staples become intaglio collagraph printing plates. The artist highlights often avoided or hidden domestic imperfections as subject matter, using her own current pest disturbances as inspiration. The way the boxes have been torn, bent, and handled often add richness and pleasant surprises to the end result.
